How to calculate GST
Adding GST to a price before tax: GST = Amount × GST rate ÷ 100, and Total = Amount + GST. For ₹10,000 at 18%, GST is ₹1,800 and the total is ₹11,800.
Removing GST from a price that already includes tax: Taxable amount = Inclusive amount × 100 ÷ (100 + GST rate). For ₹11,800 at 18%, the taxable amount is ₹10,000 and GST is ₹1,800.
CGST, SGST and IGST. When you sell within your own state, GST is split equally into CGST and SGST, so 18% becomes 9% CGST and 9% SGST. When you sell to a customer in another state, the full 18% is charged as IGST.

GST calculator FAQs
What is GST?
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is India's indirect tax on the supply of goods and services. Since the September 2025 rate changes, most goods and services are taxed at 5% or 18%, with 40% for certain luxury and sin goods. Some items are exempt, and a few have special rates.
How do I calculate GST?
Multiply the amount by the GST rate and divide by 100. For ₹10,000 at 18%, GST is ₹1,800 and the total is ₹11,800.
How do I remove GST from an inclusive amount?
Divide the inclusive amount by (100 + GST rate) and multiply by 100 to get the taxable amount. For ₹11,800 at 18%: 11,800 × 100 ÷ 118 = ₹10,000, so GST is ₹1,800.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?
For a sale within the same state (intra-state), GST is split equally into Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST). For a sale to another state (inter-state), the full amount is charged as Integrated GST (IGST).
